Silver and Gold: Real Money

insights & perspectives

 with Jerry Vorndran

short description:
"Gold is Money and Nothing Else is" so said J.P. Morgan. We shall make the same case; the case for Gold and Silver as true money and nothing else.
long description:
This is a class about Money. Not Investing, nor Finance, nor Economics, nor Stock Picking, but about the nature of money and what it is. Most of us go about our daily lives never questioning our monetary system, or what we carry in our wallets or purses, though we take part in commerce every day. This course would be both a history of how we?ve arrived at our present system as well as an investigation of how the way in which money has evolved affects all of us today.

Most ?money? classes concern themselves with ?How to increase your income? or ?How to have enough money for retirement?. However, one?s form of savings or wealth is never questioned. We all just know that we want more dollars. However, it?s not really the dollars we want but the perceived purchasing power those dollars represent. Just as we would not save in, say, bananas ? which will decay over time and become worthless, we don?t really want to save in dollars (nor Euros, nor Pounds, etc.) ? which also decay over time and become worth less and less until they too become worthless.

The course will be taught from a U.S. perspective.

Questions explored will include:

What is Money?
Where does it come from?
What are the Characteristics of Sound Money?
What gives Money Value or Purchasing Power?
What is a Dollar?
What is the Federal Reserve?
What is a Federal Reserve Note?
What is a Fiat Currency?
What is a Gold Standard?
What does Legal Tender mean?
What does the Constitution have to say about our Currency?
What is a Reserve Currency?
How does Inflation factor into all of this?
Why are Gas Prices so High and where are they heading?

Why would prospective students be interested in this class?
Money and its perceived value affect every person on earth as well as many of the daily decisions we make. For those of us who strive for it and must have it to live, it?s extremely important to understand its nature so as to make better informed purchasing and investment decisions. Even those who only barter, and use no money, are affected by the changing value (instability) of money indirectly via social change and unease. Likely, the most useful part of this class will focus on price trends and projections of various asset classes. i.e. How you can, as a saver and investor, best protect yourself in the current monetary environment.

To whom would this class be helpful?
Anyone who wants to protect his or her wealth and purchasing power. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

To understand what real money is and is not.
To understand where our ?money? comes from.
To understand what inflation is.
To understand how to protect one?s wealth.

What this class is not: Financial Advice. No investment advice will be given.

Everyone wants more of it but very few understand it. Most would not know what to ask or where to begin in trying to understand our current monetary environment. We?ll be hearing much more about our Monetary System in the years ahead. Coming Changes will affect us one and all. Get ahead of the crowd. This class is all about what they don?t teach you in school nor tell you on the nightly news. And you won?t find this class offered anywhere else.
