People and Plants
A brief overview of the history of our relationships with plants. Wher ehorticulture fits in the scheme of things. What horticulturists do. An exploration of what plants mean to course participants, and their various motivations for taking the course.
Classifying and naming plants
A fun exercise to illustrate some different ways of putting plants in order. The contribution of Linnaeus. How to impress your friends at the garden centre. An introduction to identification keys.
What do plants need, in order to thrive? A test of participants' current understanding and knowledge. Can you keep your virtual plant alive?
How do plants reproduce?
Vegetative and sexual reproduction. How to help plants reproduce : seeds,spores,cuttings and layering.
Suggestions for further learning
Some ideas for taking your learning further : books, courses, websites and activities.

I have a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching, Learning and Course Design in Higher Education from the Open University.
