description of :
I am a keen sailor and work with the London Sailing Project as a Mate. Part of this involves taking young people off-shore sailing for the first time.
Some of these people come from difficult backgrounds and it's my job as the Mate to ensure that they are given the opportunity to accomplish something amazing while not putting themselves or the vessel in danger.
I also help coach the University Octopush team and have been doing so for 3 yrs.
Teacher's qualifications:
BEng (2:1) Manufacturing Systems Engineering - University of Plymouth
PhD 'A Methodology for the Redesign of Manufacturing Systems in Small to Medium sized Enterprises' - University of Plymouth
3 yrs lecturing experience on Systems Analysis and Design at Undergraduate level
Various supervisory positions on collaborative schemes between industry and academia
's preferred teaching style:
I prefer discussion type learning as it gives the opportunity to explore complex problem areas.
No two problem situations are the same and discussions provide the opportunity to share experiences and solution strategies.
Application of learning is vital so I am heavily in favour of off-line learning through assignments and exercises in the 'real-world'.
