short description:
Exploring New Worlds, New Voices -- Once a Week for 10 Weeks
long description:
I hope this course will inspire students to explore their creative voices and to discover new worlds. By learning the fundamentals of playwriting -- plot, character, dialogue, conflict, etc. - students will experiment with the power of language and observation. Being a workshop, we often will do writing exercises and discuss, in addition to outside assignments. The goal of the course is for each student to complete a play (the play can be a short play). Many of the skills learned in this workshop are easily transferable to the art of teleplays and screenplays.

description of :
I enjoy helping others find and develop their creative voice(s). I am very open and nurturing because 1) I believe the ability to be creative is inherent in everyone and 2) it is far more courageous to create than to criticize.
Teacher's qualifications:
I am an award-winning published and produced writer and playwright. Accolades include award from Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays, a James Thurber Fellowship, Best New Play from the Katherine and Lee Chilcote Foundation, a grant from Berrilla Kerr Foundation. Also been awarded residencies at MacDowell Colony and Djerassi Foundation. I have taught and lectured at many fine institutions including University of Southern CA, Ohio State University, American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, the YWCA, Fairfield University.
's preferred teaching style:
I expect students to do their best, willing and motivated to complete the assignments. I can't fully help students who spend five minutes on a scene and expect an agent five minutes later.
