INTRODUCTION TO VISUAL BASIC FOR APPLICATIONS

courses

 with Dr. Yousef Daabaj

short description:
Visual Basic is an application which allows a programmer to create a 'Windows' environment effectively and relatively easily. Windows with scroll bars, buttons, edit boxes, menus etc. can be produced using an 'Integrated Development Environment'

long description:
Visual Basic for Applications is a 'scaled down' version of later VB releases, it offers the major principles of VB but lacks the features needed to create a truly professional programming environment.

Having said this, VBA has all the desirable features required to allow the beginner to gain a significant grasp of the major concepts. The added bonus is that VBA is available free within packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.

This educational course, produced by experienced programmer (The tutor of this course) and is designed to enable beginners to grasp the basic but essential concepts of VBA. It is assumed however, that users of this pack are already familiar with the windows environment and are able to load, save, create directories, manipulate windows etc.

The pack/course is also intended to compliment a course in VBA such as those offered at different colleges/Universities. It is not a self-study pack (unless the user is an experienced programmer).

description of :
Whilst studying for my degrees, I became familiar with and competent in the use of PCs. I have gained good knowledge and skills in programming languages (Pascal, Authorware Professional, Visual Basic, Delphi, Dreamweaver and C). I have experience of using MS windows 95, 98, 2000, MS Dos, Ms Word for windows, Excel, Access Database, Quattro Pro, H Graphics, Adobe Photoshop, MS Power Point and Lotus Smart Suite. I have depth knowledge of Human-Computer Interaction, Task Analysis methods, Requirements Analysis and systems design and development methodologies, Creating Storyboard and Script writing for multimedia presentations.Through my time at university (BSc, MSc and PhD) and from my work experience (Teacher, research assistant and Software engineer), I have developed variety of skills, such as, good communication and team work skills, I have had to conduct some interviews and focus group discussions with the real users of the intended systems that I had to analyse and design. I am able to communicate confidently with people at all levels. I am able to utilise the expertise of individual members, as well as offer my own skills and knowledge to achieve a common goal.I am adaptable and willing to learn and have a strong determination to succeed. My research and work experience have provided me with good analytical skills, problem solving, logical reasoning skills, an understanding of the human (social) aspects of technology, and an ability to absorb information from different sources. During my research and work experience there were a number of continual assessment and special reports to be prepared; presented and submitted within a given deadline. This gave me good experience and organisation skills. From my research experience I found it extremely important to schedule all work within specific time frame, allowing completion for a deadline. I have had to maintain and prioritise different projects, set objectives and meet targets within the tight constraints of time and resources. I supervised students with different levels and experience, making sure they fully understood and successfully completed their practical work. The ability to convey complex problem situations in a simple, comprehensible manner was therefore essential. Support student learning using a range of flexible teaching and learning strategies and styles and produce appropriate learning material. Deliver an appropriate teaching programme in IT & Computing. Provide help and guidance for students, in order to successfully complete their course work and projects.

Teacher's qualifications:
>> 1995-April-2001 Ph.D. in Computing
Science - The University of Salford, UK.
>> 1992-1994 MSc in Computing Science -
The University of Salford, UK.
>> 1984-1988 BSc in Computing Science - AL-Fatha University, Tripoli, Libya.

's preferred teaching style:
Use a range of resources to facilitate learning e.g. web pages, email, bulletin boards, text, audio & video conferencing, ?virtual classrooms? etc.; use a range of methods and techniques to support learners in an online context e.g. explore ideas, promote valuable threads and close off unproductive threads, foster discussion online, summarise, challenge, monitor understanding and create a climate that allows learners to learn independently and confidently.
