Jesse Bolinger

description of :
Dr. Jesse O. Bolinger,CNP, PhD (Dr. J) is an entrepreneur who has a variety of real-world experiences under his belt. Bolinger, founder of WebJOB Internet Services (1999), TechiePaws, Inc. (2009) and Bolinger Solutions (2016) believes in small businesses, local communities and helping others.

Born in March 1983, and diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, Bolinger grew up facing multiple challenges related to daily living. Many questioned his ability to be educated, or participate in a regular classroom setting. However, with the assistance of a team of individuals including his parents, experts and a wide range of other resources, Bolinger proved the impossible.

After graduation from Creston High School in May 2002, Bolinger obtained his Bachelors degree in Communication form Graceland University in the small Iowa community of Lamoni. Bolinger also earned minors in Leadership and Human Resources Management as well as the Certified Nonprofit Professional credential from the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance.

After leaving Graceland, Bolinger immediately began studies with Regis University, in Denver, CO, through their online Masters of Nonprofit Management program. During this program, Dr. Gary Smith, a faculty member at Regis, encouraged Bolinger to pursue a PhD immediately after graduation. However, Bolinger chose to put his classroom knowledge to the test through the formation of TechiePaws, Inc.

After Bolinger allowed his knowledge to work and found other areas of interest it was time to take the advise of Dr. Smith and the opportunities offered by Capella University. Enrolling in the Public Service Leadership program, Bolinger quickly found an increased nation for volunteerism and a newfound nation for qualitative resarch and coaching.

Bolinger believe that everyone should have the opportunities to meet their goals regardless of their circumstances. He aspires to assist organizations of all sizes and types in meeting their volunteerism goals and in assisting individuals with the same.

Goals & Foundational Principles

The idea of education may be concrete in nature, a prescribed set of tasks, an idea that a certain location must be utilized in order for one to learn. However, I disagree, I see the world as a classroom and I feel that any situation can be utilized for the process of learning.

For me, teaching is a journey. It is a journey, that in part, I am also able to be the student. My goal as a teacher is to provide students with the background and materials necessary so they may gain critical concepts, think critically regarding these concepts and conceptualize how learning can be put into practice in their chosen career field and in all aspects of their life and career.

My teaching beliefs are deeply rooted in childhood experiences on my family farm, 4-H, special education and attendance at private liberal-arts universities and private online universities. It is my belief that everyone can learn anything and that everyone should have, and does have, access to any and all tools they may find necessary to foster their success. Education is a critical part of us all and higher education is necessary for a greater understanding of life and career.

Teaching & Assessment Methods

It is my firm belief that a student must be active in the classroom in order to fully understand, and put into practice, the material and methods being taught. As a result, it is my belief that regular discussions should be held and that, as an instructor, I will be a part of these discussions. Participation in these discussions is not only to facilitate, but to provide commentary that will add additional depth to the discussion and associated learning.

Assessment is a vital element to gaining an understanding of a students conceptualization of material. Short quizzes should be utilized to check for understanding at periodic intervals during a course. These periodic assessments should typically consist of multiple-choice and short answer questions to assess basic understanding. Assessments of these types may be placed in a learning management system at surprise intervals or with prior notice to the student. I believe that either method can be successful in gaining an understanding of the students progress and understanding of material.

The utilization of longer essay type questions should be reserved for midterm and final examinations. Through the utilization of essay responses in these settings, students will have greater opportunity to collect information and gain an overall understanding and practice of concepts.

Overall Value of My Teaching Role in the College and University Setting

My desire to teach evolved as I learned. It has grown out of my ability to gain new knowledge through formal academic and informal self study. My value as an instructor comes from my understanding that we as humans know what we know and know that there are things we do not know. It is the element of the unknown that allows me, as a teacher, to remain focused on the continuance attainment of new knowledge and providing students with the tools necessary to continuously question and grow as individuals.
