Dead Reckoning from Silence

courses

 with Barry Reynolds

short description:
An exploration/enrichment course in literature/humanities

long description:
This course is the exploration of an idea: the idea that
silence is sometimes used by writers, artists, musicians as a
catalyst for a kind of spiritual dead reckoning, sometimes on
the part of characters, oftentimes by
readers/viewers/listeners. This course is for anyone who wants
to think about such things and write about and discuss them.
The hope of the instructor is that this will open up other
ideas to be shared and explored. This is the kind of
"course"/unit I used to like to explore with talented and
gifted students. Like the silence, this course is meant to be a
catalyst to other things. To this end, the instructor will
encourage the introduction of other texts and sources into the
conversation during the course.
