Giving Constructive Criticism

training & business skills

 with Sheila Rosenberg

short description:
This one hour session outlines specific communication strategies that will increase the likelihood that when having to give constructive criticism to another, it is more likely the feedback will be understood and accepted.

long description:
There are times when another person's negative behaviors or actions require personal feedback. At such times constructive criticism can be used to describe the specific negative behaviors or actions of the other person and the effects that their behavior has on others. Providing criticism that does not use empathy or that is poorly constructed is likely to lead to defensive interactions on the part of the person receiving the criticism.

Sheila Rosenberg

description of :
Dr. Rosenberg is the author of published articles in professional journals and periodicals. She realizes adult learners come with a wide range of previous experiences, interests, self-direction, skills, and abilities. She designs her courses so that the adult learner gets skills development practice during the course on the course content so that it becomes internalized and transferable to their daily lives.

Teacher's qualifications:
Dr. Rosenberg has over 35 years of professional experience and educational training in adult education, organizational development, group process/group dynamics, and human services management. She has completed Covey training, Total Quality Management, and Balanced Scorecard training. Dr. Rosenberg has also been an adjunct professor for over seven years teaching Sociology, Psychology, Conflict Resolution, and Interpersonal Communications courses. She has three degrees from the University of Nebraska.

's preferred teaching style:
In being consistent with how adults prefer to learn Dr. Rosenberg utilizes cooperative and experientila learning in her courses. The student will be sharing the learning experience in some manner that is interactive in nature - i.e. individual and group activities that provide an opportunity to share, reflect, and internalize the learning experiences. Students are given opportunities to practice the learning in class and receive structured and concrete feedback.
