Marthe Arends

description of :
I am a believer in the "warm fuzzy" method of teaching--focusing on problem areas in a supportive, helpful manner, rather than the use of hard and fast rules which must be adhered to. See? I just broke one of the basic rules of writing. If you want to know which one, you'll have to join the class!

Teacher's qualifications:
I am a published author of fiction and non-fiction books, short stories, and numerous articles.

Recent books:
Noble Intentions (Dorchester Publishing, February 2002)
Write Your Family History Book With Family Tree Maker Version 8: The Official Guide (Prima Publishing, 2000)
The Lion's Shadow (Avid Press, 1999) [Nominated for the Daphne du Maurier Award of Excellence in Mystery & Suspense]
Genealogy on CD-ROM (Genealogical Publishing Company, 1999)
Genealogy Software Guide (Genealogical Publishing Company, 1998)

Additional recent writing credits:
"Sand Operas," review of Elizabeth Peters' He Shall Thunder in the Sky, June 2000 Book News, Washington Post
"The Cat With the Crooked Tail," Futures Magazine, Dec./Jan 2000 issue
"Laughter of the Gods," Futures Magazine, Sept/Oct 1999 issue.
Editor/publisher of "Online Pioneers" newsletter, 1995-1999

I developed and taught three online classes (Introduction to Online Genealogy, Intermediate Online Genealogy, Advanced Online Genealogy) for Bellevue Community College's Continuing Education department from 1998-2000. I developed and taught four classes online to more than 10,000 students through Virtual University (Practical Internet Genealogy, Intermediate Practical Internet Genealogy, Advanced Practical Internet Genealogy, Creating a Genealogy Web Page) from 1998-1999. I developed and taught two classes online for Broderbund's Genealogy.com site (Internet Genealogy I & II).

's preferred teaching style:
All students should be prepared to work during this class: writing assignments will be required with each lesson. Constructive and hopefully helpful feedback will be provided. The class will be taught primarily by means of lesson reading and assignments, with weekly live Q&A/discussion sessions.
