description of :
I am a Chinese-Canadian native English speaker with a strong passion for teaching and learning. I enjoy working with elementary- and intermediate-level students, as well as adults. As a teacher, I would describe myself as very patient, enthusiastic, creative, approachable and always ready to help others.

Teacher's qualifications:
I completed an Honours degree in English and Sociology in 2007, and graduated as a Member of the Dean's Honour Roll at York University in Toronto. I also completed my Bachelor of Education degree at University of Toronto in 2009, graduating with honours. In 2010, I obtained my TESOL Diploma from International Language Academy of Canada (ILAC), completing the program with distinction.

For nearly two years, I have been tutoring with Tutor Doctor, teaching English, French and mathematics to students from kindergarten to grade 9. Before this, I worked with Academy At Home (AAH) for more than six years, instructing the same subjects to learners from grades 2 to 11. I also prepared and taught daily lessons in various subject areas to grade 2s, 4s and 5s throughout my practica at Humber Valley Village Junior Middle School and Dixon Grove Junior Middle School.

Moreover, I have experience working with students with learning disabilities. As an AAH Tutor, I taught mathematics and English to a grade 7 student with Attention Deficit Disorder and minor autism for nearly five years. As well, I worked in a Special Education classroom during my internship at Humber Valley Village Junior Middle School, providing assistance in mathematics, reading and writing to Home School Program and Individual Education Program students from grades 2 to 8. In this class, I also helped conduct Developmental Reading Assessments and administer EQAO, scribing for grade 3 students, when needed.

's preferred teaching style:
My teaching approach is very interactive: I give students hands-on learning experience rather than have them merely listen and absorb information. I also model tasks before assigning them to learners, so they understand what to do. Equally important, I always try to make learning fun, interesting and relevant to real-life situations.

I am also able to tailor my instruction to accommodate students’ learning needs. I have designed and taught various lessons, successfully meeting the needs of visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners. I have also been able to modify lessons to suit the needs of English Language Learners and students with learning disabilities, while ensuring curriculum expectations are met. The success of my work has been reflected in the learners’ increased confidence levels, grades, interest in the matters at hand and enthusiasm toward further exploration of topics. Their increased willingness to take risks and attempt challenging questions has also shown how they have felt throughout my instruction.
