long description:
This is a thouriugh course for those interested in learning more about the Galápagos Archipelago, one of the few natural heritages of our planet. The course will start with the setting of the islands (geologic, geographic, and oceanographic), and will then do an in depth study of the different species represented in the Galápagos biota (flora and fauna). We will analyze the human impact on the fragile environment of the archipelago, by learning about the intricate human history of the islands and their conservation. We will try to answer questions such as why are the Galápagos so interesting and important? Why did the animals Charle Darwin found on these remote islands helped him come up with his theory of evolution? Why should we do all efforts to conserve this special natural paradise?
