tutoring & advice

 with Kerry Foumakis

short description:
My knowledge asset is in teaching English (Literacy Skills) and Positive Thinking Skills

long description:
I have been responsible for 70% of my class receiving above average results in their State LAN Literacy and Numeracy tests. Furthermore without fail 100% of my students have jumped between 1-4 years in Spelling and Reading ages after I have taught then for only a year.

My assessment and Reporting is always detailed and accurate. I had a judge comment on my report card during a ‘Custody Court Case’, where she commented that my report on the child was the best and most detailed report she has seen in her 30 years of being a judge. Furthermore, I have one of the members of the Non-Government School’s Board as reference to my meticulous assessment and reporting skills.

I have also created a Positive Thinking Course, which I teach after hours to disengaged children. This has proven to be positive in my previous school and has produced fantastic results.

CUSTOMER FOCUS
I have been a Primary School teacher for the last 7 years at a school called Saint Spyridon College. I have the knowledge and experience in meeting learner needs due to the fact that with each class that I have taught I develop Action Plans for each child which clearly states the goals which I would like them to achieve by the end of a certain period of time and how I will help them get there. I also am able to meet learner needs through a calm, friendly, attentive and understanding approach when talking to them.
RESULTS FOCUS
All my teachings have been aligned with the SACSA Framework. With all of my lesson plans there are educational outcomes which are met through creative, interesting and varied teaching methods.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT FOCUS
I have a full understanding that we never stay the same at something and must be focused at continuously improving in our skills and abilities, because it is only then when we truly grow and learn. I am willing to improve in existing processes and procedures and to find better ways of doing things to ensure continued effectiveness in the program.
PROBLEM SOLVING
I have experience in solving and understanding problems through constant reflection and planning different tactics and solutions. I do this until there are positive results.
NEGOTIATION SKILLS
I am able to obtain agreements with learners and support staff through fair and honest communication.
BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS AND NETWORKS
I have knowledge and experience in identifying and maintaining short and long term networks useful to achieving program goals. In my previous school I maintained good relationships with various services I used regularly with the children, such as State Swim, The Unley Library, The Unley Council and the Unley Kindergarten. I also maintained a positive relationship with the children’s parents, caregivers and friends.
LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
I have always maintained a Healthy and Safety work environment and I have a good understanding of the OHS&W, EEO, Diversity, Harassment and Anti-Discrimination policies and the Privacy Act.

PERSON ATTRIBUTES
I have a strong passion for teaching children and young people. One of my majors at Flinders University was Computing, so I have a good knowledge in IT and have a strong interest in finding innovative solutions to learning using ICT options.
PERSON KNOWLEDGE
I have taught in three DECS schools before and two private schools in South Australia. I have knowledge on the SA educational learning environment and an understanding of key determinants of disengagement from these learning environments. Reasons for disengagement can vary from negative home life, to bullying, to lack of self-esteem, to not understanding school work, etc.
PERSON SKILLS
I have strong computer literacy, as previously mentioned and have had experience working with all Microsoft programs and the World Wide Web. I have effective communication skills with children and young people and to this day have not received any negative comments from parents, only praise and thanks. This is due to my consistent act upon situations and my strong communication with parents throughout the solution process. I have never taught through ICT before but I have had experience talking through Skype.
CONTRACTOR EXPERIENCE
I have understanding and experience of learner and youth needs in relation to the curriculum and individual program requirements. I have some understanding of virtual learning environments and I would like to learn more about it.
PERSON QUALIFICATIONS
I have a current registration for Primary teaching in South Australia, a Police Clearance and a current Manditory Notification (Neglect/Abuse) Certificate.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have been responsible for 70% of my class receiving above average results in their State LAN Literacy and Numeracy tests. Furthermore without fail 100% of my students have jumped between 1-4 years in Spelling and Reading ages after I have taught then for only a year.
