short description:
I am a seasoned teacher certified in US,World and Ancient History. I have over twenty years of experience in teaching oth the classroom and a public history museum.
long description:
I created two historical walking/interpretive tours for both Old Salem,Inc and North Carolina Central University. I also did much historical research while at Old Salem and presented this to my co-workers in several staff development meetings. And I also served on the Costume Committee,The Teacher Education Committee, and created a lesson plan for middle school to high school students on what young people were expected to do while growing up in the church created town of Salem,NC which was founded by the Moravian Church. This museum is located in Winston-Salem,NC. I also worked closely with our sister museums, the Schiele Museum in Gastonia,NC and Colonial Williamsburg which is of course located in Virginia.

My work was noticed by visitors to our museum one Fourth of July weekend who turned out to be employees of Mt. Vernon which is the home of George Washington. This led to me working along with them as the created their own African-American history interpretation. And recently I substituted at my old high school which is located in Davie County,NC. I have also taken several continuing ed courses and am currently taking one in Reading skills which is sponsored by Reading Rockets. I am concerned that our young people are not comprehennnnding just what they are reading and are having a lot of concerns understanding historical events and how to relate them to our lives now.

I am tough but fair and please do not let that scare you folks off. History is an exciting field and I plan on if accepted by your organization to give my students my best every day. I can break down the events that led up to the main historical occurance in the students own understannding by using examples and credible websites. I also have ben trained to teach online and your tools are the best I have seen since I was a student in the College of Education at East Carolina University which is located in Greenville,NC I invite ideas that the student has and always listen to each student and assist them in formulating the answer. And also I have a good background in Reference Librarianship which was earned by taking a course called "Using the Internet As a Teaching Tool". this was offered in the School of Library Science and included a section on how to eveluate a good web site and how to avoid and detect the bad ones. I am patient and will make learning history or anything that I am selected to teach fun but if you need a math teacher please call my brother Al who is a programmer.

I am certified in the areas of Elementary Education K-6 and Secondary Education 9-12. I am also familiar with several state history education requirements(NC,VA,Maryland and Georgia) but can work with students from all over the world. This is something that I grew accustomed to while working in real time as a historical interpreter at Old Salem,Inc.
Teacher's qualifications:
BA in Education/Psychology from Livingstone College-Salisbury,NC.

MA in US History/Minor in Social Science from North Carolina Central University-Durham,NC
Continuing Studies towards the CAS in Distance Learning Education from East Carolina University-Greenville,NC
's preferred teaching style:
I open the class by introoducing myself and also use brief ice breakers to assist everyone in rellaxing in the course. I also introooduce the course by supplying background information about the subject and then open the floor for discussion by and for the students. I will use links to websites that will have information relevant to the discussion and questions that will cause the students to think about it before they give an answer.
