long description:
Storytelling is the art of presenting a narrative, without notes or script, to an audience in an artistic way. In today\'s society, everyone needs to be at least competent at the art of storytelling. It is a necessary component to leadership positions as well as in life as a parent or friend. Some even make it their profession, performing for audiences and earning a living. The art of storytelling includes skills of oral presentation, crafting narratives, using your body and voice, and others. This course begins you on the road to becoming a storyteller with hands-on assignments that are fun and enlightening. The course is not intended to create professional storytellers or even master storytellers, so emphasis is placed on teaching and learning the ability to self-reflect on personal progress for life-long learning.

description of :
A popular, semi-professional storyteller who has told stories all over the U.S. as festivals, conferences and other events, I have taught face-to-face and online courses as a professor at Utah State University for over 17 years. My online courses are popular, and I get well above average student evaluations for my teaching. I currently teach mostly online courses at USU. I am familiar with several learning platforms and am comfortable in online learning environments.

Teacher's qualifications:
- 17 years experience teaching face-to-face and online courses at Utah State University. Familiar with several learning platforms and am comfortable in online learning environments.

- \"Understanding Theatre\" course was invited to be featured as Open Courseware at Utah State University.

-I have received several teaching awards, including the Whitesides Award for Excellent Teaching at Utah State University.

-Semi-professional storyteller for over 20 years, having told at events across the U.S.

-Have taught many workshops on storytelling to face-to-face learners of all ages in many contexts.

-Chapter president and Board Member of Utah Storytelling Guild.

's preferred teaching style:
I create a comfortable environment for students by infusing course content with my own enthusiastic personality and lively, fun activites. This makes it easier for students to construct knowledge. Since I feel that knowledge cannot be \"poured\" into students\' heads, I create assignments that are hands-on and that cater to multiple learning styles. Similarly, I usually do not favor testing as a means of assessment, but instead lean toward portfolio-building, journaling, demonstration and other means.
