This course will provide the student with a high school level understanding of events in American history from the end of World War II to the election of Barack Obama as president in 2008. Particular emphasis will be placed on the following areas:

1. The birth of the Cold War
2. The creation of the nation of Israel
3. The counterculture and its 1950s ancestors
4. The Vietnam War and the protest movement in America
5. Civil rights struggles of the 1950s and 1960s
6. The impact of technology in the 1960s-1990s
7. Presidential politics from 1948 to 2008 (focus on each election as a stand alone unit)
8. The conclusion of the Cold War
9. The roots and present state of affairs in the War on Terror

I am in my sixth year as a public school teacher in Arkansas. I have taught in grades 6-12, all in social studies classes. I also am an ordained Southern Baptist minister, and have served as pastor of my church for nearly five years. I am in my ninth year of licensed ministry, and have been ordained since 2003. I am 29 years old.
Teacher's qualifications:
I am a certified teacher in Arkansas, with valid licensure in the following areas: Social Studies Grades 5-12; English Grades 5-8; Mathematics Grades 5-8; Science Grades 5-8. I hold a bachelor's degree in history from Union University in Jackson, TN, and a Master of Arts in teaching degree from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. I am also a Master of Divinity candidate at Temple Baptist Seminary in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
's preferred teaching style:
I intend for my courses to be taught with the text chat feature. I may incorporate voice chat as I become more familiar with the limu setup, but for now, courses will focus on discussion board posting and text chat. There will also be some video clips used in this class, links for which will be provided.
