I will instruct you on all aspects of crafting an argumentative essay (in other words, an essay that argues for one particular point-of-view). We will discuss everything from the introduction to the conclusion (including the bibliography, if you'd like), as well as ways to organize your writing, improve your time-management skills while writing, create smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs, incorporate quotations into your writing, and improve your grammatical skills. You will learn to communicate effectively through writing, which will be an asset to you in whatever profession you choose. Your writing skills have a tremendous impact on the way others perceive you, and I will teach you to communicate your viewpoint in a way that is concise, clear, and well organized. During this course, you will write about topics of your choosing; alternatively, I am happy to select writing topics for you, if you'd prefer. You will write four short essays, and I will provide you with extensive feedback on your writing.

I have a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Maine, and I spent four semesters there teaching college composition (essentially, the same class I'll be teaching here). My students had to submit a final portfolio of their writing at the end of the semester to be graded by other professors, and my students have had a 99% pass rate. I have had wonderful feedback from my students, and I genuinely love teaching writing. I also have several years of professional writing and editing experience, both full-time and freelance. As a teacher, I am patient, thorough, hard-working, and creative, and I will do whatever it takes to help my students succeed.

• Independently taught ENG 101 (College Composition) for four consecutive semesters and managed all aspects of the course.
• Instructed first-year students in persuasive/argumentative writing, grammar and mechanics, and other fundamentals of writing, and helped them learn to edit their own writing through detailed written feedback and tutoring.

Poetry Editor 2008-2009

• Helped to run the university’s graduate literary magazine and acted as the editor for the poetry section, choosing and editing submissions.

• Wrote for The Suburban and Wayne Times and PLAY Philly Magazine as a full-time reporter covering Philadelphia news and entertainment.

's preferred teaching style:
I will be providing you with live online tutoring and instruction, and you will have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you'd like. I will also provide you with short writing assignments to help you successfully demonstrate the skills you've learned, and I will give you full feedback (most likely through Microsoft Word's commenting feature). At the end of this course, you will be a stronger and more confident writer, which will, no doubt, be an enormous asset to you in whatever field you choose to pursue.
