I have been rendured a quadriplegic due to an auto accident 30 years ago.
long description:
From the age of 17, I have been disabled after a terrible car accident from which I suffered an additional loss of one of my best friends losing her life in the accident as well.
I understand the trauma of disbelief, denial and overwhelming depression. Since that time, I have gained confidence and the courage to accept what I cannot change. It took years, however, I went back to school, and eventually earned my Masters degree in Criminal Justice.
It has not been an easy road...I learned throughout time, who my real friends were, and became aware and utilized many of the agencies that are meant to help people with disabilities find other ways to make life fulfilling again. Although I had the tremendous and unconditional love and support from my family and a few friends, I understand that there are many people who are in my situation that have no family or friends that they can count on. I am also aware that when a person (regardless of age) suffers a catastrophic injury, it is also their families who feel at a loss as how to help their family member who is suffering. Believe me, my family members have been through the myriad facets of emotions.
I feel that I can help by offering advice, personal experience and perhaps offer ideas or solutions that may help anyone or family members who are suffering through an situation such as the one that I have experienced, and continue to experience.

I offer my life's experience as a teaching guide. Often I go to Rehab's to listen to another persons story and offer my knowledge of agencies that are available to guide them.
Teacher's qualifications:
My non professional qualifications are that I belong to a self-help support group that focuses on accessibility and fund raising for people who have suffered life altering injuries.
's preferred teaching style:
I believe that listening to someone who has a story to tell...whether its about how they are feeling, or their uncertainties about their future. I can only share with them what has worked for me and the others that I have listened to. Therefore, I fully encourage and engage in an open forum like discussion. I believe that this is a positive way of networking so that we can all be of help and grow further together.
