Ten Things Every Math Student Should Know

courses

 with Terrance Harrington

short description:
Ten general concepts the knowledge of which can mean the difference in a letter grade or more in math

long description:
Nearly two decades of teaching college math has given me some insights into why students struggle... and sometimes fail... required core math classes. It's not the fault of the teaching they've had nor the

level of difficulty:
all welcome

minimum class size:

availability:
Available by appointment, primarily.

fee comments:
It is not atypical for beginning college math students or returning adults in college to pay beyond $500 total for tutoring, over the course of a year. The concepts learned here are far more valuable to learn than I would ever charge to learn them. My intent is to provide help for everyone who needs it, not to get rich.

Terrance Harrington

description of :
I was like any other math teacher until one of my former professors advised me to teach like I think, not as I was taught. That changed my world and made me more student-centered. I try to teach students how to think math, not what to think.

Teacher's qualifications:
Over 14 years as a college-level math teacher, with experience teaching everything from elementary algebra to college calculus and business statistics

's preferred teaching style:
I'd rather be a facilitator who guides students to understanding than a gate-keeper who tries to "measure students for fitness"
