The class will include an overview of what many consider to be Michael Jackson's best work, particularly the collaborations with Quincy Jones.
 
long description:
• Class is held on a weekly basis for 4 weeks, Tuesdays from 7-8:20pm, beginning April 6, 2010 and ending April 27, 2010
• Week 1: Off the Wall – Burning out the disco, making way for a new era
• Week 2: Thriller – The thing with forty eyes that would redefine pop culture indefinitely
• Week 3: Bad – The smooth criminal breaks more records, more rules
• Week 4: “HIStory” - Each class member presents their individual project.


OBJECTIVES:

• To provide a case-by-case overview of who and what helped transform Michael Jackson from an extremely gifted child prodigy in the music industry to a universal icon without boundaries.
• Using the collaborations between Michael and Quincy, we will follow the progression of MJ’s growth as a producer and songwriter.
• To give those mild MJ fans (as well as all the no. 1’s) a chance to explore and present their findings through a creative and unique medium.

I have been a private voice instructor/coach for over a year. Prior to teaching voice, I served as choir director at a local church for 5 years, collectively.
 
Teacher's qualifications:
Master of Music: Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY (2008)
Bachelor of Music: Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA (2006)
 
's preferred teaching style:
I am heavily into the socratic method for teaching. Based on the assignments I assign prior to each session, I will provide a premise. Each member will then be able to respond and express their opinions as it relates to the subject in question.
